Description: All too often business owners get immersed in the business and neglect their personal professional development. Here is an opportunity to learn, share and practice some essential skills for business success.

Research suggests that entrepreneurial skills CAN be taught or acquired. Therefore we are running at the e-centre a series of workshops covering the critical competencies of a successful entrepreneur (persuasion, networking, decision making, perseverance and vision). The sessions will be innovative and interactive, putting into practice, not classroom style lectures.

This series of 5 workshops is targeted at both experienced and aspiring entrepreneurs. To facilitate the workshops we have contracted Dr Marco van Gelderen who has deep experience in teaching/developing such competencies. By the end you will have a very good understanding of your own entrepreneurial capabilities (strengths and weaknesses) and have acquired skills that are critical for developing a successful venture.

Comments from previous course
:
“Interactive aspects forced you to think about issues more, found this a good learning experience. Video examples were very effective. Examples on human behaviour gave good insight on how to deal with people.” Anon

“Enjoyed Marco's presentation and affable and open discussion it encouraged.” Anon

“The course was very worthwhile and I’d recommend it to anyone interested in starting up their own business or developing their skill set further.” Brendon Fagan.

New Zealand’s leading Business Strategy Students compete at e-centre.

The companies were in various stages of development, and included a company launching on-line singing products, one company at the start of a fund raising round with electronic products , an offshore company launching an energy efficient product into the NZ market and a services company setting up in North America. The companies provided the students with an overview of the issues facing the company and the students were given 4 hours to come up with options and ideas to assist the company going forward.

The students formed their own teams and each team had a representative from Massey Uni, AUT, Auckland, Otago, Waikato, and Canterbury.

Feedback from the companies was very positive, and provided the companies with useful insights on their go-to-market strategies , especially for those companies targeting the demographic represented by the student age group.

The project was so successful that e-centre and Massey Business School will develop the concept into a regular event.
