EDX

EDX was formed in 1999 by Kim Powell and Mary Bayne. Our current core business is helping clients to derive maximum commercial benefit from the Personal Properties Securities Act 1999 (PPSA). Secured creditors wishing to benefit from the protections available under PPSA must register their security interests on the new, electronic Personal Properties Securities Register (PPSR).

Our service is specifically designed to assist organizations with too few registrations to warrant the cost of building a direct link to PPSR, but too many registrations for manual registration to be practical. We have developed a method to enable our clients to electronically register, amend and discharge their security interests on PPSR. In summary, it provides clients with all the flexibility of a direct link to PPSR at a fraction of the cost of in house development.

Our point of difference is that in addition to the method of registration, we provide consultancy services to clients to enable them to assess the commercial impact of PPSA and to implement an appropriate registration regime specific to their needs.

EDX will have an exciting future – our name derives from “Electronic Document Exchange”, our core competence is handling complex transactions electronically. The PPSA project is maturing well and we are in research phase for our next major project.

For us the real benefit of the e-centre is the informal relationships and support we get from and give to our fellow entrepreneurs. For all of us, the early years are an “emotional roller coaster”. As good news and bad comes in it is easy to go from euphoria to the depths of despair and back again over the course of a morning. You cannot always share this with someone in a “real job” – they could think you are out of your mind to be doing what you are. To be able to celebrate someone else’s success or share important milestones in our own journey is the tonic that kept us going in the tough times.

Beyond this, the tenancy arrangements are terrific. We pay for the space we use and benefit from a professionally staffed reception, communal meeting areas, and audio visual aids such as data show projectors that would otherwise be too expensive to buy in the early stages. This has enabled us to achieve a professional presence on a do-it-yourself budget!

We are business people – not “techos” and we wanted to surround ourselves with the best and the brightest brains in the industry. We are heavy users of technology and needed to undertake a substantial software development and build. We contracted one of our fellow tenant companies to do some work, engaged other contractors on a part time basis and received tremendous formal and informal support from our colleagues at the e-centre.

We achieved a successful launch – on time and (almost) on budget. It is hard to see how we could have done this in any other environment.
